Abstract: BACKGROUND&AIM: To study the antimutagenic effect of PS8812 Polysaccharides (PSP) and its Selenium Polysaccharides(PSSP).MATERIAL AND METHODS: The Ames test, mouse marrow micronucleus test and mouse sperm malformation test were used. RESULTS: PSP and PSSP both could evidently inhibit the reverse mutation on Salmonella thphimurium strains TA98 and TA100 with and without S9 mix.The rates of maximum inhibition were 65.39 % and 73.21 % respectively. The frequencies of micronucleus and abnormal sperms induced by cyclophosphamide (CP)were reduced significantly by PSP and PSSP.The inhibitory rate of micronucleus was between 40.24 % and 60.37 %; the inhibitory rate of abnormal sperms was between 38.92 % and 62.36 %.CONCLUSION: PSP and PSSP have significant antimutagenic effect.
