Abstract: We analysed cytogenetics indexes from 29 women and 27 women who had been implanting NorplantR Ⅰand CLa as a long2term cont raceptive system , respectively and f rom 19 women as the cont rol group. The results suggested that NorplantR Ⅰmay be induce the existence of an increase mutagenic environment in cells of its impanters and significantly higher f requencies of chromosome aberration and sister chromatid exchange , the problems of NorplantR Ⅰsubdermal implant for long term cont raception should be attached importance to and that this kind of CLa could not be a clastogen or mutagen2carcinogen.
