Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To assess the mutagenic effects of Henna, which is a special hair dye in Xinjiang. METHODS:Micronucleus test and sperm malformation test were performed to analyze the mutagenicity of Henna. RESULTS:The rates of micronuclei in three Henna groups (with concentrations of 5 000,2 500,1 250 mg/kg,respectively) and control group were 0.8‰,1.0‰,0.9‰ and 0.8‰,respectively. There was no significant difference between Henna groups and control group (P>0. 05). The rates of abnormal sperm in three Henna groups and control group were 1.4%,1.6%,1.4% and 1.3%,respectively. There was no significant difference between Henna groups and control group (P>0. 05). CONCLUSION:Henna showed no mutagenicity under this experimental condition.
